Dear [FIRSTNAME]
Tamar Ridge Estates has taken a further step to consolidating its position as Tasmania’s leading producer of botrytis affected dessert wines.
TROPHY WIN FOR TAMAR RIDGE AT INTERNATIONAL RIESLING CHALLENGE
The 2007 Tamar Ridge ‘Kayena Vineyard’ Botrytis Riesling has been announced as the winner of the Tamar Valley Wine Route Trophy for the Best Tasmanian Riesling at the 2009 Canberra International Riesling Challenge. The trophy win was announced at the Riesling Challenge Awards Dinner held in Canberra on the evening of Friday 16/10.
This award continues an exceptional run of success for botrytis wines from the Kayena Vineyard that started with the 2001 wine that won two trophies at the 2004 Tasmanian Wine Show for Best Sweet White and Best Blend (it contained a portion of sauvignon blanc).
The 2005 and 2006 wines were also trophy winners - the 2005 at the International Wine Challenge in the UK and the 2006 at the Tri-Nations Wine Challenge and the Decanter World Wine Awards.
This means that every vintage of Botrytis style wine released from Kayena Vineyard has now won at least one trophy. There were no wines released from 2002, 03 and 04 vintages nor will there be a wine from 2008. However, there is a very promising wine from the 2009 vintage in tank awaiting bottling that gives every indication of matching the standard of the 2007 wine.
“We are fortunate in having a block of Riesling located on the north-eastern edge of the vineyard closest to the Tamar River” said Tamar Ridge Estates Chief Winemaker, Dr Andrew Pirie.
“When vintage conditions are right including early morning mists, infrequent showers interspersed with sunny days this block develops noble rot and delivers botrytis-affected fruit of outstanding quality. A success rate of 4 out 5 of 5years is very high for this type of production” said Dr Pirie.
